Nexus Zero Asks Shigeru Miyamoto…

Friday 20th July

About a month ago, Time asked its readers for questions to ask legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, and today it has published the responses to ten of them. My question was posed:

Are any of your games, like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, meant to send important messages, or are they just supposed to be fun?
~Matt Perry, LONDON

Though, that’s not exactly what I originally asked. The question was targeted more at the importance of creating other experiences other than just ‘fun’ by invoking other emotions such as sadness. Perhaps unsurprisingly given his superhuman insight, our lord and saviour Miyamoto cut through Time’s editorial missteps and answered the real question thusly:

When I create a game, I try to focus more on the emotions that the player experiences during the game play. But in the case of the Zelda games, the producer puts some messages about good and evil into the game.

Well then. This makes up for the tragedy of his London Virgin Megastores appearance, at which I arrived late and was left on an overhanging balcony taking photos from a disposable camera that lies undeveloped at the bottom of my wardrobe, for the memories contained within remain raw.

You can find more of Time’s fan-submitted interview, including a question about a Zelda movie, by tapping this. Just once, mind! Link double-clickers bug the hell out of me. You’re like old people or something.
