New Zelda for Wii in the Works, DS Too?

Wednesday 16th July

While I don’t think anyone thought otherwise, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to IGN that Nintendo’s in-house Zelda team is working on the next Zelda for Wii. While making no official confirmation of a new DS Zelda in the works, he did mention that there are two separate teams working for each platform, implying so.

“The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away. And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we’re having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version.”

When asked about what new innovations the next game will hold, his reply seemed to be “A lot, but not too much”.

“I don’t necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas. And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas.”

Fey - Wednesday 16th July 01:19 pm

I have to agree that Zelda probably does need some “big new unique ideas.” My friend and I were actually talking two days ago that it might be a good idea to make only one more console Zelda, announce that it is so and let it go down the path Metroid Prime did.

Since TP pretty much followed the classic Zelda layout, get a few items to get something powerful and then further dungeons, as in LttP and OoT it means the next one will likely be like MM was to OoT which excites me as I also liked MM better than OoT.

But yeah, while I do think Zelda may be running its course here soon, I’m as exicted as heck to know there is another one in production.

ZELDA MUST CONTINUE!!!!!!

(to Fey) I hope that it’s a little bigger than MM. Majora’s mask felt like an unfinished/rushed project (its goal was to complete a sequel to OoT in a year or less)

I would like to see something new, but I will say STICK TO THE ZELDA FORMULA. we all know how it went when they tried to mess with it. *coughcough*AoL*cough*

What I do wanna see is an option between left and right on the next Wii one. as a lefty, being forced to play a right-handed Link rankled. Besides messing with one of the ONLY left handed hero.

(to MSLynk - You also have to understand that AoL was not an “official” Zelda game. It’s within the time-line and it is a Zelda game, but it was not made by the Zelda Team we know and love.)

The reason I bring this fact up, is that if it does vary, it won’t be catastrophic like AoL was. It’ll still be made by the same team, therefore it will still be made with the “Zelda philosophy” at heart. So if they veer away from the Zelda formula, the result will just be like that off of any other branch of the Zelda tree: Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, and the like.

I do want the Zelda games to take one of those different branches this time around though. But I don’t want it to be the rushed project that MSLynk feels MM was (and I have to say I agree, no matter how great the game is, it was rushed).

I’m excited for the new game, but I’m also a little worried. But this is the good kind of worried. To me, if you’re not worried about what their gonna change in the next Zelda, I don’t think it can be any greater than a game before it.

I trust Miyamoto, Aonuma, and the rest of the team, and I’m extremely anxious to hear more news on the new Zelda’s.

Noah's Mask - Saturday 19th July 03:43 pm

I’m hoping for another classic style Zelda adventure, involving Ganondorf. It will probably not be a direct sequel in which link stumbles into a new world like in MM and PH.
Hopefully it will be a more OoT style game.

Noah's Mask - Saturday 19th July 07:02 pm

Oh and they should come up with a better solution for links dominant arm than they did in TP. Link should remain left handed, although I don’t care much as long as it doesn’t affect the story or game. In TP they had to reverse the whole game, a bad descision. It conflicts with the story, since Gerudo Desert was always in the west of hyrule, not in the East. Thats a big difference between wii TP hyrule and traditional Oot Hyrule. I’m sure the world didn’t reverse itself for one game…

Ty - Wednesday 23rd July 06:05 am

i dont got much hope to get the game when it comes out any time soon dont even got a wii T-T

Expect Link to be talking in this next game XD
