  Welcome to Zelda Elements

No New Zelda at E3

Tuesday 2nd June

Yes, E3 is here again. And Zelda fans waited hopefully to see if this was the year for an announcement of the next big-budget Zelda title. But alas, while the Nintendo press conference was bound to make Nintendo fans happy, with two new Mario Wii games, a new Metroid title and the return of Golden Sun (ignoring the new Wii Fit game and the re-announcement of Wii Sports Resort), there was neither a Deku Nut or Dodongo in sight.

This makes five years since Twilight Princess was first announced at E3 04. Nintendo are certainly making the Zelda fans wait very patiently. At least we can rest assured that Nintendo are taking their time with it for a good reason. Right?

Oh, but it’s not completely bad news. DS game Spirit Tracks was on the showroom floor, so expect some impressions (a.k.a. “How much is it just like Phantom Hourglass?”) to pop up on the internet very soon.

Arg…

Another E3 where Nintendo has been under par *sigh* I don’t even know what to say. The only thing I can really look forward to at the moment is Golden Sun and Mario Galaxy 2.

The Metroid thing looks weird. I hope New New Super Mario Bros. is worth it.

A Wii Fit sequel, really? Was there really a need for more than one? Oh, and a little bit more Spirit Tracks, but they hardly show any footage from the game that we didn’t already know would be in the game. Wow. The Mario Galaxy sequel actually looks promising, though — hopefully they try to make it more different from Galaxy, though, so it doesn’t feel like the same game with different levels and whatnot. Uniqueness, people… Nintendo seems to be lacking that. The New New SMB looks okay, though. Mario & Luigi looks pretty neat, but that subtitle? Whoa… I wish they would’ve just called it M&L 3.

My only really criticism is that it looks like there are too many sequels coming out — like, direct-sequels (Galaxy, NSMB, Spirit Tracks). It’s like Nintendo has run out of ideas and just wants to rehash their games as many times as possible for the sake of their new technology. It bothers me… severely. I almost wish they’d just ask the fans what they’d like to see in a new game.

Apparently Miyamoto is going to be doing something around 5 PM Pacific (about an hour from now for me), so I pray, pray, *pray* it is Pikmin 3. Seriously. So hard. While I am overall rather disappointed, mostly just at the lack of Kirby Wii or MOTHER3 on the DS like the Destructoid psychic said there’d be, Pikmin 3 might just be their saving grace.

So come on Nintendo. Bring on ‘da Pikmin!

CorvosKK - Tuesday 2nd June 11:29 pm

I’m currently watching the main keynote (I only read the liveblog’s Kotaku was posting when it was going on) and I’m at the part where Iwata is talking about making games to fit every difficulty level of the player and how you can readjust the bar for these things. They way he was talking it made it seem like he might announce the “Kind Code” project we heard about and I’m not gonna lie, just him talking about it and the anticipation and the realization that they’ll be coming out with it soon (also the fact that this reveal would probably lead to the next Zelda) got me REALLY excited. Then they release that Wii Vitality Sensor bull. Totally killed their keynote…. I hope IGN’s roundtable with Shiggy tonight is going to be good. Especially considering he didn’t show up for the keynote.

NEW E3 FOOTAGE AND SCREENS FROM ST!

New trailer and new screens from the E3 floor showing of Spirit tracks at the link above.

Yeah, I know. I’m kind of bummed about it…

But hey, at least they didn’t forget the hardcore gamers this year. That new Metroid looks wicked.

General Salt - Wednesday 3rd June 12:46 am

Old news, bud. Everyone and their mother already have passes for the Nintendo E3 websight.

Also MOTHER3 was already translated completely. Sure, it would be nice if it was released but there’s no need for that to happen.

Sony won E3, IMO. Big Boss’s new game is enough for them to win every year for the next 20 centuries.

Leirin - Wednesday 3rd June 02:07 am

Miyamoto just mentioned Zelda for the Wii at E3! (I’m watching the Kotaku liveblog). There’s even artwork for it, apparently. Wow.

MSLynk - Wednesday 3rd June 03:13 am

Really? Oh thank God.

linkthewarrior - Wednesday 3rd June 04:20 am

He just said that he wants to have a Zelda ready to show by next year. Having a piece of concept art doesn’t really say if they even have the game any where close. He just said he hopes to have something to show for next year.
