Can you beat the Running Man?

The Running Man cannot be beat. I’m sure Shigeru Miyamoto had a great time thinking about how many people would waste hours trying to be the first one to beat him. No matter what you do, he is always one second faster than you. As proof, the English screentext translator reports that he had never had to translate a congratulations message for when you finally beat him.

Can you get into the hole in Zora’s Domain?

You can get into the hole which you can see hidden underwater when you stand atop the pillar closest to the ladder by the entrance. It took me a few tries to do it, and now it is a year or so later and I have forgotten how. I do, however, remember that you have to do something while jumping into the water that makes you fall straight to the bottom. You then have to pull hard back into the hole as you ascend, because once you go down to the bottom you don’t stay there. You get caught underneath a ledge which is what makes it look like a hole. It is dark but it is really just an alcove that leads nowhere.

Can you get into Gerudo’s Fortress as a child?

There is a special way of doing this, but it may take a few tries. First, warp to the Spirit Temple as Child Link, and off into the desert. This is the tricky bit. You have to navigate the desert with out getting lost, but remember, it isn’t impossible. You may be lucky and do this first time, but you may also have problems and it may take loads of attempts. once you get to the sinking sand, follow it all the way to the left, and there is a bit where you can roll across it if done correctly. Once you are in Gerudo’s Fortress your most likely course of action is to get caught and realize that you don’t have the hookshot to get out of jail.

Can you get the Triforce?

For a long time, there were many rumours going about telling people how to get the Triforce. They were mainly along the lines of ‘Complete the game x amount of times and do this when you are here while standing on your head and then do something funny with the cartridge so it screws up your save game but we won’t tell you that’.

As a result, those who tried, were not impressed. There were even sites dedicated to starting these rumours. And Nintendo didn’t help, either, when on April Fool’s Day a few years ago they announced that it was possible to do. But, the answer, at the end of it all is that no, you cannot get the Triforce.

A reader named ‘Doctoroc’ sent in this, something which he made up. It is a good example of what people were actually trying to get you to believe around the launch of Ocarina of Time.

“Start as adult link, go up to Epona and shoot him a few times on the neck with your bow, go back to being child link, go to the great fairy’s fountain, throw a Deku Nut at her and she will give you the ability to fly. Go to Hyrule castle, fly into the king’s chamber, kill the king, play the prelude of light, and you will warp to Ganondorf’s room. He will be playing “I left my heart in San Francisco” on his organs and when you get nearer he says “Go away, I can almost do all of this without making any mistakes.”

Say no until he gets really annoyed and gives you the Triforce of Power so you will go. You are then warped back to your house, where Zelda (adult Zelda) gives you the Triforce of Wisdom. You get to wish for either of three things:

1. The ability to kill anybody by pressing b in front of them,
2. The ability to use all weapons regardless of your age, or
3. The ability to change into any boss whilst fighting a boss. i.e. you could turn into King Dodongo and get al his moves whilst fighting Ganondorf.”

The funny bit is that people usually believed this sort of tripe!

While you can’t get the Triforce, there is a way of seeing it. Thanks to Mew375, we can give you the codes to see the Triforce with a Gameshark.

V1.0 codes needed:
Beta Quest - 8011B9E3-0000
Moon Jump (press L to fly) - D01C84B5-0020 811DAA90-40CB

V1.1 codes needed:
Beta Quest - 8011BBA3-0000
Moon Jump (press L to fly) - D01C8675-0020 811DAC50-40CB

Here is the process that needs to be followed in order to see the Triforce on V1.0 and V1.1:
Start your game with those Gameshark codes on and watch the N64 logo until it disappears. You’ll then appear in Hyrule Field at night in the Beta Quest. Run towards the drawbridge that enters Hyrule Market. Press L to fly up and over the drawbridge and fall down to enter the Goron Shop.

Let the Goron Shop fully come up from the fade before trying to leave otherwise it will mess up and you’ll start falling. Now turn Link around and go back towards the entrance stepping slowly and not running to leave.

You’ll now be in the Castle Courtyard in the very ending sequence where it would normally flash “The End” and stuff with child Link looking at Zelda. If you have V1.0, you will see the stuff that would come up except the Courtyard will still be in colour and you can move. If you have V1.1, you will not see this but just the regular Castle Courtyard.

Now go over to one of the walls and make Link face the very centre where the flowers are. Press L to start going up and when you get through the “celine” that you can go through. Now start pulling back on the analogue stick to make Link float back. Now let go of L to start falling. Fall until you’re below the scenery and start pressing L again and pressing forward on the analogue stick. Go forward until you start swimming in the water. Swim forward and try and get right under the middle of the flowers.

Now let go of everything and float to the top and let Link surface. Now after Link surfaces, press Up-C to look around. Look down towards Link’s feet and to the left. There is the Triforce!

Here are the codes needs to see the Triforce on V1.2:

Beta Quest - 8011C093-0000
Moon Jump (press L to fly) - D01C8D75-0020 811DB350-40CB
Warp Anywhere - D01C8D75-0010 8111C015-00F0

Here is the process:
Start your game with those Gameshark codes on and watch the N64 logo until it disappears. You’ll then appear in Hyrule Field at night in the Beta Quest. Pull out your Ocarina with a C-button and play the Prelude of Light (Up-C, Right-C, Up-C, Right-C, Left-C, Up-C) and when asked if you want to warp to the Temple of Time, say Yes. When the screen starts to fade to white, quickly press R and hold it until you appear in the Castle Courtyard.

Next go over to one of the walls and make Link face the very centre where the flowers are.
