New Skyward Sword Trailer Shows Off Lanaryu Desert

In Zelda news

Nintendo are really building up the hype for the release of the newest Zelda game, and have released yet another trailer. This time the trailer focusses on a new area: the Lanaryu Desert. I would tell you more, but I’m personally avoiding any more trailers to avoid spoiling the game for myself. This doesn’t mean you can’t watch the trailer, though. It’s here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkpq7kJRiQ8

Robin and Zelda Williams Return For Skyward Sword

In Zelda news

I was right! I predicted the future! I don’t care if it was painfully obvious, I was right! Nintendo have continued their stream of TV Zelda adverts, featuring Robin Williams, and his daughter, Zelda. This time it’s for the upcoming Skyward Sword. Here at Zelda Elements we tell you the FUTURE.

As always, you will either love it or hate it. Right now, the only version that exists online is subtitled in a language I don’t recognise, so you’ll have to make do with it for now (not that it detracts much). Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZWzq1nX1iI

What’s next for Zelda, you ask us, having proved our fortune-telling abilities? Well, faithful readers, the next, currently unannounced Zelda game will be on a NINTENDO console. Fancy that!

New Skyward Sword Trailer Actually Shows New Stuff

In Zelda news

As we edge ever closer to the release of Skyward Sword, Nintendo have released another trailer for the game. Unlike the previous trailer, it actually shows new footage, and isn’t just a re-edited version of things we’ve largely seen before. Like the previous trailer (in fact, like ALL trailers), it has exactly the same music, the Zelda’s-Lullaby-in-reverse Skyward Sword theme. I suppose for some reason, Nintendo want us to be sick of it before it releases…

The “Origins” trailer is largely cutscene-based, and shows lots of new environments, characters, and creatures. View it exclusively at GameTrailers here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-origins-zelda-skyward/723205

Skyward Sword releases in just three weeks time. Are you excited? I will be, but I need to stop being excited for Sonic Generations first (which is out in under a week, just sayin’, folks. What do you mean I should write for a Sonic site instead?)

Fan-Made 25th Anniversary Cartoons

In Zelda news

For Zelda’s 25th anniversary, Nintendo asked DSi and DSiXL owners to create their own Zelda cartoons using the in-built Flipnote Studio software. For cartoons designed on a DS touch screen, you may expect them to be quite static or not so detailed. You would be wrong! The fans have made some quite impressive shorts, and you can view the best of them at Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5849773/zelda-fans-made-these-incredible-cartoons-on-a-ds/gallery/1

Four Swords Anniversary Edition TV Stop Features More Robin Williams

In Zelda news

It seems like Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda (who was named after… actually, you work it out) have signed a long-term marketing deal with Nintendo for the Zelda franchise. After starring in adverts for Ocarina of Time 3D a few months ago, they’re back to promote the newest title, Four Swords Anniversary Edition. Interesting to see Nintendo actually pay to promote something they’re giving away for free!

And the moral of the story is: don’t bet your beard on a match of Four Swords. Who’s going to bet we’ll see these two charmers again in a month when Skyward Sword comes around?

(Footage does not show Robin Williams throwing his 3DS out of the window in a fit of rage after attempting the Hero Trials.)

Fun Zelda Videos

In Zelda news

Hey, gang.  I know this is technically Espy’s job, but I haven’t posted anything in quite some time so I think he’ll forgive me for stealing his thunder.  GameInformer has been running a video series all month detailing both Skyward Sword coverage and the 25th anniversary of Zelda.

In addition to fun videos like the montage of the “best” Zelda commercials (they’re still missing the Majora’s Mask teaser they showed in theaters, which had the best tagline to anything EVER), they also have Exclusive Videos.  There’s two out now, with three more promised overall.  These contain short sections of gameplay, which have my interest piqued.  Minor spoilers and such…but so far no boss fights have been ruined for us.

Enjoy!

Zelda News from Nintendo’s TGS Conference

In Zelda news

It’s that time of year again, where “Japan’s E3”, the Tokyo Game Show, kicks into gear, and we get the usual slew of press conferences and game demos on the show floor. And kicking the thing off this year was Nintendo’s press conference.

First off, some news about Skyward Sword. Miyamoto took to the stage and claimed that the game would take 50-100 hours to complete. That’s huge! I’m inclined to believe he may be slightly exaggerating here, but we can rest assured that Skyward Sword will certainly be a meaty adventure. The game will also feature a helper mode, as seen in recent Mario and Donkey Kong games, and the recent Ocarina of Time 3D, which will give you hints in beating a puzzle if you get stuck. Saves the trips to GameFAQs, I suppose!

Miyamoto also showed off a demo of the game, but not much has been reported about that. Let us know if you find some sources that explain what was shown. In the meantime, there has been some new gameplay footage released to tide you over. Check out the footage towards the end of this new Zelda history video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulaSHjVxfuU) and this exclusive skydiving clip revealed by GameInformer (http://www.gameinformer.com/games/the_legend_of_zelda_skyward_sword/b/wii/archive/2011/09/12/exclusive-video-flying-to-eldin-volcano.aspx). *UPDATE* Here is video footage of the whole Zelda segment of the conference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StXfwq4GU3g The Skyward Sword stuff starts at around six minutes. We see countless new environments, bosses, and… the return of Beedle.

Secondly, more information about this new Four Swords was revealed, which will be given away for free download for the DSi/3DS, starting September 28 to February 20. The game, titled “Four Swords: Anniversary Edition”, appears to be an upgraded version of the GBA game (NOT the completely separate Gamecube game, as many are reporting), and has new features such as a new single player mode (the original was multiplayer only), and stages in the visual styles of the original NES Zelda, and the Gameboy game, Link’s Awakening. For a free gift, this is pretty cool! Now all I need to do is find three DSi/3DS owning friends, pronto! View the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iX7B6WnS4w

One final piece of information, between October 3 and February 20, select retailers will be seling prepaid 3DS cards with an image Link fighting Ganon. No news if these are Japan-only or will have a wider release.

Nintendo are certainly going all-out for Zelda’s birthday. The first main new game in five years, a free game for all DSi/3DS owners, a symphony tour, and even small things like Zelda-themed 3DS cards. It’s a busy year for Zelda!

New Skyward Sword Trailer Shows… Nothing New

In Zelda news

As it is Comic Con in San Diego right now, and as Comic Con seems to have transformed into a mini-E3 recently, Nintendo have released a new trailer for Skyward Sword. Hooray! Shame that it’s largely footage from the previous trailer. Boo.

On the plus side, I think the footage of Link swinging on a rope is new. And it’s now 100% CONFIRMED that the game will feature a man unnecessarily wearing a helmet in his own house and sticking a fork into an unidentifiable metal object. That’ll set the fans at ease.

You can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8E4Y_P5Rv8

Footage of Zelda Wii U Tech Demo

In Zelda news

Gaming blog Kotaku have posted a video of the Zelda Wii U tech demo shown briefly during Nintendo’s E3 conference, confirming that, yes, it is just a tech demo and not a full game. Intended to show off the graphical power of the new console, the demo plays out footage of Link fighting a giant spider. The player can change the lighting and camera angle (to prove it’s not a prerendered video), overlay a map on screen and move the video onto the controller’s touch screen. It certainly looks impressive, and while it’s not a game in itself, we can be sure that whenever Zelda hits this new console (and it certainly won’t be for a while), it will look pretty amazing.

Full Skyward Sword E3 Trailer

In Zelda news

The snippet of Skyward Sword footage we saw in the opening of Nintendo’s E3 press conference actually belongs to a full-length trailer, which Nintendo have just released! In it we see more of Link’s hometown, a floating island in the sky. We also get a hint of the plot: It seems that Link has what appears to be some form of female friend who is eaten by a big flying fish, and he kits up in the traditional green suit to go out to save her. We also get some more gameplay footage, showing some new environments. And the end of the trailer seems to confirm that instead of having a horse as your main mode of transport, you will be able to ride a flying bird! This matches up with cryptic comments Eiji Aonuma made a good while ago about wanting to include flying in the new game. So will this (literally) add an extra dimension to the world of Hyrule, or will it be on-rails or confined to certain areas? I suppose we’ll find out soon!
