The Legend of Zelda:
Four Swords Adventures
is a compilation of
multiplayer-orientated
games that make use of
the Game Boy Advance -
GameCube link cable. The
main game is Hyrule
Adventure which can also
be played in single
player, and there's a
multiplayer-only game
called Shadow Battle,
which is basically a
Zelda deathmatch. The
third is called Tetra's
Trackers, an
orienteering-type game,
but this is only
available on the
Japanese version as it
uses extensive
voice-work. |

Hyrule Adventure is
easily the biggest
portion of the Four
Swords Adventures disk.
It's a dungeon-based
Zelda game for one to
four players, and
follows the story of the
Hero's quest to save
Princess Zelda from the
clutches of evil wizard
Vaati. Players must use
the power of the Four
Sword to split Link into
four separate entities,
as this is the only way
the navigate the unique
dungeons.
In single player mode,
the game can be played
with a normal GameCube
controller, as the Game
Boy Advance screen pops
up on the TV instead.
Links can be sorted into
formation by using the
D-Pad, giving them
different team
abilities. The graphics
of both Hyrule Adventure
and Shadow Battle use
updated sprites from A
Link to the Past and
special effects from The
Wind Waker. |

This is a deathmatch
mode for up to four
players, with an initial
five available arenas.
Each player starts with
four hearts, and
traditional items and
weapons are used to
knock health off each
other. Different arenas
possess special and
unique traps that can be
activated in secret
areas using the Game Boy
Advance screen, and
these often hurt
everyone that is on
the main screen. |

Tetra's Trackers is an
adaptation of Eiji
Aonuma's "Marvelous!".
Link has challenged
Tetra to a pirate
contest, so players go
head to head, searching
across an island to find
all the hidden pirates
in a specific order. The
emphasis is firmly on
exploring, rather than
puzzle solving or
fighting, and each
player must use a GBA as
the main screen is used
by the navigator
(usually Tetra) to shout
out commands and
commentary, as they
stand next to a world
map. This mode is only
available in Japan. |
