It’s funny ’cause it’s true.

Monday 18th January

I’m still in the middle of exams here in Scotland (I have one in less than three hours), but I have just enough time to share with you this amusing Zelda comic! It asks the deep question – what if there was no save and continue after the Game Over screen? Well, not really, but it’s amusing.

It seems to have been made by a Portugese dude, but thankfully for us, there are no words!

Zelda Fan Movie Taken Down

Sunday 3rd January

Those of you who were itching to watch the unofficial Zelda movie that I mentioned in the post below, you’re too late! The movie has been taken down, by request of Nintendo. It seems they weren’t happy with the use of their property, and gave the filmmakers until the new year to remove the film. I’m sure you have better things to spend two hours doing, anyway!

Community Projects Ahoy!

Tuesday 29th December

Fanmade tributes are often very bad – you don’t need to look far to see some horrible Zelda fanfiction. But occasionally, fans can hit the mark pretty well. Staff member The Ocarina linked me to the two following pieces of fanmade Zelda works which may or may not fall into that category – you decide!

The first of which is for the music lovers. Zelda Reorchestrated, a fan project dedicated to reworking classic Zelda tracks into convincing faux-orchestrated versions, have finished reworking the entire Ocarina of Time soundtrack. It’s a shame that due to budget, space and quality issues, many older games with great music sound synthesised, something this project aims to counteract. The finished work isn’t actually recorded by a real orchestra, but it sure is convincing! Check it out at their homepage.

The second of which may be more controversial. The fan-made Zelda movie, The Hero of Time, has finally been released online. Many fans have mixed feelings about a Zelda movie, especially after IGN’s April Fools joke a number of years ago. However, I am being completely unbiased about the matter. This one might be good! I haven’t watched it yet, so let us know what you think of it!

Thus ends our community round-up. If you see anything fan-made that you think is pretty interesting, be sure to post it in the comments or in our forums – we’re open to all tips! Now back to Spirit Tracks.

Got far too much time on your hands? Like crafts?

Sunday 13th September

Do we have a post for you.

This is a fan-made, life-sized Adult Link papercraft model. Made entirely of paper, it’s a surprisingly impressive representation of Twilight Princess Link. And the best thing! You can make your own! You can download plans for you to print here (you’ll need something to decompress RAR files), so you too can own your very own burnable Link. I made mine – it only took about fifteen minutes!

Joking aside, if anyone does actually take on this challenge, let us know how you get on. Click here for more images of the feat, and progress video logs, detailing exactly how this thing was made.

(P.S. I realised today that due to being away at the time, I did not update to let you all know that the sixth volume of Zelda manga, the first of a two-part adaptation of For Swords, has been released. It has been out for well over a month. Sorry about that. Please do not boycott our site.)

Recent downtime: Sorry!

Sunday 17th May

You know you’ve been shirking your responsibility as a webmaster when you realise your site’s broken only because your avatar has 404′d on forums for a solid 5 days. The culprit? A random setting in our htaccess file that was mysteriously set to ‘Of’ rather than ‘Off’ or ‘On’. I don’t even understand what it does, but adding an extra f seems to have appeased the server gods for now. Next time they unleash their wrath upon us my only request is that they fire a heads up our way.

So, sorry for taking a week to fix this trivial though bizarre problem and sorry for being, quite frankly, a bit crap.

Zelda and Halo Combine!

Tuesday 5th May

You’ll be glad to know that the title I just wrote refers to something fan-made. A Halo map, to be precice.

In the quirky news item for the month, a gamer who is clearly both a massive Zelda fan and a massive Halo fan has recreated the Hyrule word from Ocarina of Time as a Halo PC map with scary attention to detail. Not only has he recreated the overworld, but Kokiri Forest, Kakariko Village, Lake Hylia, Termina Bay and even more are also included in their entirety! Even if you’re not a Halo fan, or don’t own it on PC, this is worth checking out to applaud the fan’s dedication.

A video and download link can be found below:

Zelda Blog Relaunches

Wednesday 7th May

The first of many community-wide projects, the Zelda Blog has relaunched. It already has some cracking editorial, for example:

“…a crybaby, really turned people off.” in Zant: A Story of Revenge

“(Insert link to image)” in Ocarina of Time for the DS?

В ”Any real fan knows that Link is silent, but deadly.” in Link Keller – The Silent Hero

“Suffice to say, FSA was no more than a series of cruel genetic abominations that involved LttP’s Link and Minish Cap’s Link, combined together to and cloned into four mutated, bastardized Links that spread havoc and chaos throughout Hyrule with endless supplies of annoyingness.” in The Hylian Collective

Hello Hello

Tuesday 18th March

Hello. My name is Nexus Zero and I am a procrastoholic. Even by writing the following post about the future of the website I am procrastinating, sitting here at my desk with other people’s websites to finish and instead bunking off to write for my own.

So what’s going on? Well, not a lot, by virtue of my laziness. But, as is tradition here at Zelda Elements, we’re currently in one of those “upswing downswing” cycles where the motivation to do anything productive eeks in and out over the course of months (this is actually demonstratable: look at the numbers on this page). I have the feeling that we’re about to hit an upswing.

As you may have read, we’re the fourth site to have been announced as part of the Zelda Dungeon Alliance. This will come as a shock to long-time readers; we generally don’t sign up to this sort of thing partially because they serve no useful purpose and partially because they don’t appeal directly to my ego or my delusions of a Zelda fan site empire headed by, of course, me. Well, this alliance is different.

Members of the ZDA have been hand-picked by Mases, who has specifically chosen a diverse set of sites who each bring something different to the group. For instance, sites announced so far include fan-game HQ Zelda Classic, companion PureZC, and fan work legends North Castle. “But Nexus,” you cry, “Zelda Elements is the most generic of all these fan sites! It is the pinnacle of a standard, game-based, news-driven fan site!” Well yes, you’re right, we are quite generic, but you have my thanks in referring to us as the “pinnacle.” I mean, that’s very generous of you but really, you’re being too kind.

Haw haw.

So joking aside, how do we fit in? Well, we’re going to go to extra lengths to make sure that we are the site for Zelda news. Espy, linkthewarrior and myself will carry on doing our thang like a chicken wang (oh lord), becoming the GoNintendo of Zelda sites. There will be a renewed effort to bring you the best Editorials and Features that will deviate from our usual “Zelda-only” template, discussing anything we think a Zelda fan will find interesting, hopefully encouraging a Nintendo-loyal readership to sail to shores unknown. Evil Sponge will continue to provide high-quality game help for the latest Zelda games.

In the longer term, I have plans in place for a site revamp that takes its cue from a herbally-induced vision I had a month ago for a radical new site design, something never seen before, at least not in any kind of fansite community. All I need first are my props…

However, this all raises some interesting questions about the future of the site, and this is where you come in (presuming you’ve made it this far). In the interests of cutting the wheat from the chaff, something I’ve always been a huge proponent of, should we remove our Fan Works and leave that to North Castle? And what are your thoughts on our direction? This site wouldn’t exist without readers, so it’s important you make yourselves heard! Equally, any of this sounds interesting or exciting to you, and you’re a good writer who wants ‘in’, please contact us.

News Archives Returns

Thursday 13th March

A benefit of switching to WordPress is that we can automatically bring back the sorely-missed News Archive. Now, rather than battling with abstract pagination you can browse news by date and category, or alternatively using the search function.
